Lewis claims Historic Bronze for Bermuda in Glasgow

IslandStats.com
Jessica Lewis secured Bermuda’s first medal of the 2026 Commonwealth Games with a superb bronze-medal finish in the Women’s 400m T54 Final in Glasgow.

Lewis clocked a time of 59.31 seconds—dipping under the one-minute mark once again—to seal third place and put Bermuda on the medal table in Scotland.

The result marks a milestone moment as Lewis became the island nation's first athlete to compete and medal in para athletics at a Commonwealth Games.

Scotland's Melanie Woods delighted the home crowd inside the stadium to take gold in 56.43, while Mauritius' Noemi Alphonse claimed silver in 57.89.

Mixed fortunes elsewhere for Team Bermuda

While Lewis provided the crowning moment of the day, there was heartbreak and frustration for Bermuda's other contenders across Glasgow:

Triple Jump Final: Jah-Nhai Perinchief was forced to withdraw from the Men's Triple Jump Final after suffering an injury during his warm-ups, ending his medal ambitions early.

Track Cycling: At the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Conor White missed out on a place in the final of the Men's 10km Scratch Race, finishing 12th in his qualifying round after being caught behind a mechanical split in the field.
