Vrengen claimed a narrow victory in Race 15 of the Wednesday Night Sailing Series, producing the best corrected time of the evening in a fiercely contested race.
Although Crossfire was the first yacht to cross the finish line in an elapsed time of 1:02:14, the handicap system dramatically reshuffled the standings. A corrected time of 1:08:38 dropped Crossfire to 15th place.
The second boat home, Airforce, completed the course in 1:10:22, but a corrected time of 1:06:36 elevated the crew to seventh overall.
The closest battle came at the top of the corrected-time standings, where Vrengen edged victory with a time of 1:04:19, just three seconds ahead of Thrash, which finished second in 1:04:22.
Encore completed the podium after posting a corrected time of 1:04:54, rounding off a competitive evening on the water.
The race once again highlighted the importance of the handicap system, with the fastest boats across the line unable to convert their speed into victory as corrected times determined the final order in another closely fought Wednesday Night Sailing Series contest.
