Bermuda's athletes continued their Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games campaign with encouraging performances in bowling, hockey and swimming as the competition gathered pace in the Dominican Republic.
The island celebrated victory on the hockey field, impressive swims in the pool and a solid showing on the bowling lanes.
Bermuda's women's hockey team claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Jamaica, with Chrysda Smith scoring the decisive goal in the fourth quarter. Despite Jamaica controlling much of the possession, Bermuda defended resolutely before Smith's strike proved enough to secure all three points.
At the Juan Pablo Duarte Aquatic Center, Bermuda's swimmers enjoyed an impressive opening day. Elan Daley advanced from the heats of the women's 50m freestyle before lowering her time to 25.91 seconds in the A Final, while Madelyn Moore won the B Final in 26.17 after also progressing from the heats.
There was more success in the men's 200m individual medley. Elijah Daley and Sam Williamson both qualified for the B Final, where Daley produced the performance of the day, winning in 2:05.70 to break Williamson's Bermuda national record of 2:06.59. Williamson finished second in the final with a time of 2:07.40.
On the bowling lanes, the competition switched to the doubles event. David Maycock and Levinc Samuels led Bermuda's challenge, finishing seventh in Group A with a combined score of 2,613 pins. Anthony Hayward and Lamar Richardson placed 16th in Group B with 2,496 pins, while Dennis Joell and Shannon Lee finished 18th after knocking down 2,143 pins.
The performances marked another positive day for Bermuda's athletes, with success spread across multiple sports as the CAC Games continue.
