Bermuda Olympian Erica Hawley will return to international competition on August 2 when she lines up in the 2026 World Triathlon Cup in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The elite event will be staged on the iconic Copacabana Beach, one of the world's most recognisable sporting venues and the site of the triathlon competition during the 2016 Olympic Games.
Hawley will face a demanding sprint-distance race beginning with a 750-metre open-water swim. The women's elite field will start from the beach at 7:00am before completing a single counter-clockwise lap in the waters off Copacabana.
The athletes will then tackle a fast and flat 20-kilometre bike course, consisting of four five-kilometre laps along Avenida Atlântica and the surrounding streets, offering plenty of opportunities for high-speed racing.
The event concludes with a flat 5km run over two counter-clockwise laps, where the race is often decided in a sprint to the finish.
With its combination of fast courses and a spectacular backdrop, the Rio World Triathlon Cup is expected to attract a strong international field. Hawley will be aiming to deliver another competitive performance as she continues her 2026 campaign on one of triathlon's most historic stages.
