The Government of Bermuda has reaffirmed its backing for the island's premier sporting occasion by presenting $70,000 to Somerset Cricket Club in preparation for the 2026 Annual Cup Match Classic.
The funding forms part of the Government's annual commitment to the host club, helping ensure Bermuda's most celebrated sporting and cultural event is staged successfully.
Cup Match remains one of the highlights of Bermuda's sporting calendar, combining elite cricket with celebrations marking Emancipation Day and Mary Prince Day. The two-day fixture is deeply rooted in the island's history, commemorating the abolition of slavery while bringing communities together through a tradition that spans more than a century.
The financial contribution will assist Somerset Cricket Club with the significant planning and operational demands of hosting the event, which attracts thousands of spectators from across the island each year.
The Government also paid tribute to the many people who help make Cup Match possible, thanking Somerset Cricket Club's volunteers, sponsors and Bermuda's emergency services for their commitment to delivering a safe, successful and memorable holiday weekend.
With preparations continuing, the funding provides another boost for Somerset as the club readies itself to host one of Bermuda's most anticipated annual events, where cricket, culture and history come together in a celebration unique to the island.
