Chare Smith played his part as Frenchay CC secured a comprehensive 120-run victory over Downend CC in the West of England Premier Cricket League (WEPL) Bristol & North Somerset division at the WG Grace Memorial Ground.
Frenchay laid the foundations for victory after electing to bat first, posting an imposing 306 for eight from their allotted 50 overs.
Steffan Davies led the charge with a superb 97, falling just three runs short of a century, while Smith was not required to bat as Frenchay's deep batting line-up piled on the runs. Downend's Blake Sculthorpe was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3-65 from his 10 overs.
Facing a demanding chase, Downend struggled to build sustained partnerships despite a determined innings from Sculthorpe, who completed an impressive all-round display by top-scoring with 92.
Frenchay's bowlers maintained control throughout the innings, with Madushan Ravichandrakumar producing the decisive spell. His outstanding figures of 5-31 from 7.4 overs ripped through the Downend batting order and ensured the visitors were dismissed for 186.
Smith also made a valuable contribution with the ball, delivering an economical spell of 6-1-27-1 as Frenchay wrapped up an emphatic victory.
The convincing win underlined Frenchay CC's strength with both bat and ball, as they comfortably outclassed Downend to collect another important result in their WEPL campaign.
