Harry Allen starred with both bat and ball as Bath CC earned an 18-run victory against Frenchay Cricket Club in the West of England Premier Cricket League Bristol & North Somerset division.
Despite an impressive bowling effort from Frenchay's Chare Smith, Bath defended a modest total at The Bob Stone Ground to claim maximum points in a tightly contested match.
Having won the toss and elected to bat, Bath found runs hard to come by as Frenchay’s bowling attack kept tight control throughout the innings.
Harry Allen anchored the Bath lineup with a crucial top score of 44, helping his side scramble to 174-9 from their allotted 50 overs.
Bermudian seam bowler Chare Smith was the standout performer with the ball for Frenchay, finishing with tidy figures of 2-24 from his seven overs to restrict the visitors.
Frenchay’s chase began promisingly behind a determined half-century from Shalinda Arachchige, who struck 54 to keep the hosts well within reach of their target.
However, Allen turned match-winner with the ball, tearing through the Frenchay batting order to take 5-31 from 10 overs.
Smith failed to score with the bat as Frenchay collapsed to 146 all out, falling 18 runs short of victory in a low-scoring thriller.
