Bermudian duo Najiyah Raynor and Oyinde Bascome endured a difficult afternoon in the Warwickshire County Cricket League as Coventry & North Warwickshire CC II suffered a comprehensive 149-run defeat against Nuneaton CC.
The Division 2 clash at Binley Road proved to be a one-sided affair, with the visitors dominating both disciplines to leave Coventry empty-handed.
Having won the toss and elected to bat on a favorable Binley Road surface, Nuneaton’s top order set a formidable platform. A. Sayed was the undisputed star of the first innings, anchoring the visitors with a fluent, top-scoring knock of 79 to propel his side toward a massive total.
Coventry struggled to maintain a consistent line and length, though bowler R. Sharma provided a gritty lone resistance. Sharma finished as the pick of the home side's attack, claiming three wickets for 66 runs during an arduous 10-over spell.
Bermuda's Bascome did his part in the field, showing sharp reflexes to hang onto a crucial catch, but Nuneaton safely negotiated their allotted 50 overs to post an imposing 260 for 7.
Faced with a daunting target of 261, Coventry's response never found its rhythm as Nuneaton's opening bowlers struck early and effectively.
Bermudian opener Najiyah Raynor was dismissed for just 4, leaving his opening partner and compatriot Bascome to attempt a rebuild. Bascome looked composed, grinding out a hard-fought 24 at the top of the order before he was trapped.
From there, the wheels fell off the Coventry innings. Only F. Hussain offered sustained resistance lower down the order, battling his way to a top score of 29.
The afternoon belonged to Nuneaton bowler C. Hughes, who ripped through the middle order with a devastating display of seam bowling. Hughes finished with spectacular figures of 4 for 33 from his 10 overs as Coventry were skittled out for a meager 111, handing the visitors a resounding victory.
