St. George’s Cricket Club 247/8 Cleveland County 98

St George’s Cricket Club enjoyed a commanding afternoon at the Wellington Oval, defeating Cleveland County in a high-stakes combined Cup Match and Eastern County trial match.

Yet the headline moment of the day belonged to Jashay Trott, who carved her name into the history books by becoming the first ever female cricketer to play in a St George's Cup Match trial. Trott made an immediate impact with the ball for Cleveland County, showing excellent composure to claim a wicket during her historic spell.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, St George's posted a formidable total of 247 for eight from their allotted overs. Isaiah O'Brien led the way with a superb, top-scoring knock of 78 off 110 balls, an innings punctuated by six boundaries and three towering sixes. Nzari Paynter provided excellent support, compounding the misery for the Cleveland bowlers with a fluent 52 off 83 deliveries, smashing three fours and clearing the ropes four times.

Faced with a daunting chase, Cleveland County’s reply never quite got out of first gear as the St George's attack turned the screw.

Zeri Tomlinson offered the only real resistance for the batting side with a gritty 42, but Cleveland were ultimately rolled over for just 98 runs. Jonte Smith was the chief destroyer for St George's, tearing through the middle order to return clinical figures of three wickets for 14 runs from his four overs to seal an emphatic victory.
