Southampton Rangers produced a clinical performance to dethrone cup holders Warwick Workmen’s Club, securing a famous victory in the second round of the Western County Cup at White Hill Field.
Having won the toss and elected to bat, the Rangers set a highly competitive platform on the back of two half-centuries. Dalin Richardson anchored the top order with a well-played fifty-seven off sixty-five deliveries, an innings that included four boundaries and a maximum.
Oronde Bascome kept up the offensive pressure with a matching contribution, firing a swift fifty-three off sixty-one balls, also crossing the ropes four times alongside a single six. Despite a late fightback from Warwick bowler Jalani Richardson—who proved the pick of the attack with an impressive return of four wickets for fifty runs off his nine overs—the challengers posted a formidable total.
Faced with a tough chase, Warwick Workmen’s Club struggled to build meaningful partnerships against a disciplined bowling unit. Guest player Tre Manders offered the sturdiest resistance, top-scoring for the champions with a gritty forty-two.
However, Warwick had no answer for a masterclass from Southampton Rangers spinner Derrick Brangman.
