Bermuda international Okera Bascome and his Coventry and North Warwickshire Cricket Club teammates secured a convincing five-wicket victory over Bedworth Cricket Club in their Premier Division clash at Binley Road.
An outstanding all-round display from Akshaykumar Patel proved to be the difference as the hosts dominated the local encounter from the outset.
Bedworth won the toss and elected to bat first but struggled to find momentum against a disciplined bowling attack. The visitors were eventually bowled out for a modest total of 117. Sree Vatsan top-scored for Bedworth with a resilient innings of 41, but they had no answer to the brilliance of Patel. The Coventry bowler tore through the batting line-up, returning exceptional figures of five wickets for 29 runs off eleven point two overs.
In reply, Coventry and North Warwickshire chased down their target with confidence, reaching 119 for the loss of five wickets. Patel capped off his man-of-the-match performance by anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 52.
Bermudian batsman Bascome made a brief but aggressive cameo at the crease, striking four runs off just two deliveries to help push his side over the line. James Ward was the standout performer with the ball for Bedworth, taking two wickets for 22 runs in his six overs, but it was not enough to prevent Coventry from sealing a comfortable league victory.
