Bascome Smashes Magnificent Century in Coventry Victory

IslandStats.com
Bermudian international Okera Bascome put on a batting masterclass to guide Coventry & North Warwickshire CC to a clinical six-wicket victory over Handsworth CC.

The opening batter took centre stage at Binley Road, smashing a sensational 118 off just 96 balls to turn a potentially tricky run-chase into a procession in their Premier Division encounter.

Having won the toss and elected to field, Coventry & North Warwickshire produced a disciplined performance with the ball to restrict the visitors to 206-7 from their 50 overs.

Bevon Brown anchored the Handsworth innings with a resilient 60, but the visitors found it difficult to completely break the shackles against a persistent attack. Taran Toor was the standout performer with the ball for the hosts, turning the screws with an exceptional, controlled spell to return figures of 3-50 from his 12 overs.

Bascome was also sharp in the field, showing rapid reflexes behind the stumps to claim a vital stumping to keep Handsworth in check.

The response from the hosts was dominated entirely by Bascome’s explosive intent. The Bermudian international dismantled the Handsworth bowling attack, anchoring the reply with an innings that included eight boundaries and six towering sixes.

By the time his match-winning knock came to an end, the foundation had been permanently set, allowing Coventry & North Warwickshire to comfortably reach 207-4 in just 34.4 overs.

Amaan Shah was the pick of the Handsworth bowlers with figures of 2-35 from his five overs, but his efforts proved to be a mere consolation as Bascome’s class ensured the hosts secured maximum Premier Division points.
