Sanchez Smith and Christine Dailey stormed to commanding victories at the 2026 Grateful Miles 5K Classic, leaving the rest of the field in their wake.
On a day tailored for fast times, Smith controlled the men’s elite race from the front, while Dailey produced a stunning top-five overall finish to secure the women's crown in dominant fashion.
In the men's field, Sanchez Smith proved to be a class apart. Setting a blistering tempo from the gun, Smith gradually broke away from the chasing pack to cross the finish line in a stellar time of 17 minutes and 7 seconds.
Such was Smith's superiority, he had time to savour the moment, crossing the line a comfortable 30 seconds ahead of his nearest rival.
Oliver Brunnock led the chase to secure a hard-earned second place in 17:37, while Domico Watson completed the podium positions, coming home third in 18:41.
If the men’s race was a showcase of controlled aggression, the women’s race was a masterclass in pure dominance by Christine Dailey.
Dailey not only decimated the women’s field but also embarrassed most of the men’s elite, crossing the line a phenomenal fourth overall in a time of 19:55.
By the time Dailey took the tape, she had opened up a massive chasm of 1 minute and 16 seconds over her nearest competitor.
The battle for the remaining podium spots was fought further down the tracking sheets. Evelyn Fahy secured a highly impressive top-10 overall finish, claiming the runner-up spot in the women's category with a time of 21:11.
Lynsey Palmer rounded out the top three women, finishing 23rd overall in 22:27 on a memorable day of racing.
