Sanchez Smith produced an authoritative, front-running display to secure victory as the Bermuda Triathlon Association's Tri-A-Tri series returned to the scenic sands of Clearwater Beach.
Tackling a crisp super-sprint course consisting of a 200m open-water swim, an 8km bike segment, and a grueling 2km finishing run, Smith laid down a relentless marker early on to dictate the pace of the men’s field.
He stopped the clock at a commanding 26 minutes and 12 seconds, showing flawless transitions to hold off a determined chasing pack. Philip Woolins mounted a ferocious challenge on the tarmac during the bike leg, digging deep to lock down a well-earned second place overall with a finishing time of 28:39.
Meanwhile, the women's division belonged entirely to Elena Bortoli. In a masterclass of tactical pacing, Bortoli navigated the choppy coastal currents excellently and carried her momentum smoothly onto the road.
She crossed the gantry in 31:10, securing a brilliant first-place finish in the female category and further cementing her growing reputation on the local multi-sport circuit.
The highly competitive turnout at Clearwater continues a spectacular summer season for the Tri-A-Tri series, offering both elite prospects and rising triathletes an ideal proving ground ahead of the major national championships later this year.
