Hosts Bermuda reignited their ICC Men's T20 World Cup Americas Sub-Regional Qualifier campaign in emphatic fashion, dismantling Belize by 10 wickets in a rain-shortened encounter on day two.
Following the opening day's total washout, the sun briefly broke through the clouds at the National Sports Center North Field, though subsequent downpours forced tournament officials to truncate the match to 12 overs per side.
Winning the toss and electing to field, Bermuda's bowling attack immediate choked the life out of the Belize innings. Executing a clinical, tight line, the home side restricted their opponents to a meager 45 for 7 from their allotted 12 overs.
Only Belize's Alex Oxley offered any prolonged resistance against the relentless Bermudian pressure, grinding his way to a fighting top score of 22.
The standout performer with the ball for Bermuda was Dominic Sabir, who delivered a devastatingly economical spell. Sabir tore through the middle order, returning exceptional figures of 2 wickets for just 4 runs from his single over.
Faced with a modest target of 46 for victory, Bermuda's opening pair of Onias Bascome and Delray Rawlins wasted absolutely no time, launching a ferocious assault on the Belize bowling unit to wrap up the chase in mere minutes.
Bermuda coasted home to 48 without loss, needing a fraction of their allotted overs to seal the most comfortable of victories.
Bascome led the charge with a blistering, unbeaten 31 off just 19 deliveries, entertaining the home crowd by smashing four boundaries and clearing the ropes for a colossal six. Rawlins played the perfect supporting role at the other end, rotating the strike with maturity to finish on 17 not out from 13 balls, including two boundaries of his own.
The statement 10-wicket victory provides a massive net run-rate boost for Bermuda as they look to secure the solitary qualification spot on offer.
