Bortoli & Palmer Crowned 2026 National Sprint Champions

IslandStats.com
Gianluca Bortoli and Lynsey Palmer produced magnificent, well-timed performances through the streets of Hamilton to be crowned the 2026 Liberty Mutual National Sprint Triathlon male and female champions.

On a morning that tested transition speeds and tactical discipline across the swim, bike, and run legs, both fields delivered fiercely contested battles for the top steps of the podium.

In the men's championship, Bortoli laid down a definitive marker by stopping the clock at a superb 56 minutes and 31 seconds.

He started his morning strongly, emerging from the water following a 7:02 swim. While he was marginally outpaced on the bike course by a hard-charging chasing pack—recording a cycle split of 32:09—Bortoli saved his finest gear for the tarmac. A blistering 16:48 run segment comfortably shattered the field and secured his national title.

Bortoli was pushed all the way by runner-up Jackson Langley, who crossed the line exactly 63 seconds later in 57:34.

Langley matched the champion stroke-for-stroke in the water with a 7:04 swim, before unleashing a race-best 32:02 split on the bike to briefly ignite the battle for first. However, he could not match Bortoli's sheer foot-speed on the final leg, closing out with a 17:46 run. Oliver Brunnock rounded out the men's podium in third, crossing the line in 59:01 (7:42 swim, 33:12 bike, 17:17 run).

The women's championship belonged entirely to Lynsey Palmer, who secure a brilliant eighth-place finish overall in the senior individual classification with a time of 1:08:04.

Palmer managed her race pacing layout beautifully, clocking 8:03 in the opening swim before pulling away from her direct rivals with a resilient 37:34 bike segment. She comfortably protected her lead through the closing stages, clocking 21:32 on the run to cruise to a dominant victory.

Georgia Evans secured the second female spot and 15th overall, fighting back from a slower 10:48 swim to clock 39:38 on the bike and a 22:29 run for a final time of 1:14:35.

Madison Schindel completed the female podium just under a minute later, finishing 16th overall in 1:15:28 after tracking Palmer closely in the water with an 8:36 swim, before registering a 41:34 bike split and a 24:32 run.
