Dandy Stars came from a goal down to secure a commanding 4-1 victory over the Under-17 National Select Team, courtesy of a spectacular three-goal masterclass from clinical forward Jahni Simmons.
The high-stakes domestic clash looked set for an upset early on when the youth select side caught the senior outfit off guard. Rising young prospect Leydi Raynor found the back of the net in the 20th minute, breaking the deadlock with a well-taken strike to hand the Under-17s an unexpected but well-deserved lead.
However, the Under-17s' defensive resilience was broken ten minutes before the interval as Jahni Simmons took control of the contest.
Simmons found the equalizer in the 36th minute, before her twin sister Jahde Simmons struck just three minutes later to instantly turn the game on its head and hand Dandy Stars the advantage. Refusing to relent, Jahni Simmons struck again in the 44th minute to secure her brace and hand her side a comfortable 3-1 cushion heading into the break.
The Under-17 National Select Team adjusted their shape in the second half in a bid to stem the tide and limit the damage, but they simply had no answer to the movement of the Dandy Stars frontline.
In the 62nd minute, Jahni Simmons capped off a truly sublime individual performance by turning home her third of the match. The clinical finish sealed both her hat-trick and a comprehensive three points for Dandy Stars, cementing their status as formidable forces in the league while providing a stern learning curve for the national youth team.
PHC Zebras 3 Somerset Eagles 1
The PHC Zebras came from a goal down in the Bermuda Football Association’s Under-23 Division match to defeat the Somerset Eagles 3-1 in an entertaining clash.
The West End outfit started the brighter of the two teams and looked determined to pull off a major upset. Their early pressure yielded immediate results in the 21st minute when Marco Basden scored through a maze of players to hand the Somerset Eagles a well-deserved 1-0 lead.
However, the early setback only served to awaken the formidable PHC attack.
The Zebras began to dominate possession and forced their way back into the contest just over ten minutes later. In the 34th minute, Enoch Joseph rose to the occasion, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to fire home a clinical equalizer and send the sides into the halftime break deadlocked at 1-1.
PHC carried that momentum directly into the second half, completely shutting down the Eagles' midfield supply lines.
The pressure finally told in the 56th minute when Tristen Davis found space inside the box, turning his marker beautifully to smash the ball past the helpless Somerset goalkeeper and hand the Zebras the lead for the first time in the match.
The Eagles threw bodies forward in the closing stages in a desperate attempt to rescue a point, but they were ultimately caught out on the counter-attack. In the 87th minute, Xave Smith showed superb composure to seal the three points for the Zebras, putting the game completely out of reach and wrapping up a resilient comeback victory.
