Olympic triathlete Tyler Smith and a relentless Maddie Durkin have claimed the ultimate local bragging rights, being crowned the men's and women's champions at the spectacular Bermuda Day Half Marathon Derby.
In the men's division, Smith showcased his elite international pedigree early on, breaking away from the leading pack to isolate pre-race favorite Ryan Outerbridge. Operating at a blistering tempo, Smith never looked back, storming home to a comfortable victory in an impressive time of 1 hour, 10 minutes, and 49 seconds.
For Outerbridge, it was a familiar story of heartbreak as he crossed the line in 1:15:06 to settle for a second-place finish for the third consecutive year. Five-time champion Lamont Marshall utilized his immense veteran experience to round out the men's podium, taking third in 1:15:42.
Meanwhile, the women's event belonged entirely to the flying triathlete Maddie Durkin. Durkin put on a magnificent display of endurance to finish an incredible 15th overall, stopping the clock at 1:27:56 to seal the women's crown.
Christine Dailey fought hard to secure the second female spot, placing 19th overall in 1:28:49, while a resilient Teresa Ruiz completed the women's podium in 25th overall with a time of 1:31:25.
