Philip Woollins and Stepanka Sprincova have been crowned the 2026 Bermuda Union of Teachers 5K champions after delivering dominant performances on a morning that celebrated both elite pace and the island's rising youth talent.
The annual event, which winds through the heart of the local running circuit, saw a high-calibre field assemble across all age brackets. While the veteran runners set the tone in the open categories, it was the explosive speed of the primary and middle school divisions that provided the day's most enduring highlights.
In the Men’s Open Division, Woollins showcased his tactical maturity to claim the title in a swift 18:48. Woollins was forced to work for the win, fending off a persistent challenge from John Kemoi, who crossed the line just 19 seconds later to secure the silver. Craig Munden rounded out the men's podium, clocking 19:37 to cap off a competitive morning for the lead pack.
The Women’s Open race belonged to Stepanka Sprincova, who not only claimed the female crown but secured a remarkable fourth-place finish overall. Sprincova broke the 20-minute barrier with a finishing time of 19:58, finishing well clear of her nearest rivals. Ivy Manio secured second place in 24:34, while Elizabeth Stewart claimed third with a solid 25:39.
The junior divisions provided a glimpse into the future of Bermudian athletics, starting with a historic performance in the Lower Primary race. Raelyn Robinson delivered the performance of the morning, outrunning the entire field to finish as the first overall athlete in a lightning-quick 2:32. Gyasi Dowling claimed the honours as the first male finisher in the category, clocking 2:47.
In the Upper Primary School bracket, Elliotte Davidge showed impressive composure to take the win in 6:06, with Freya Dunkle leading the female charge in 6:53.
The Middle School category saw Khaleef Daley produce a standout performance, clocking 6:01 to take the top spot. He was followed by Yara Muhammad, who secured the female title with a strong 6:55.
In the Senior School division, the athletes tackled the full 5K distance alongside the open runners. Jarred Jones took the male title in 19:44, a time that would have placed him among the elite leaders in the open field. Kelise Wade mirrored that success in the female division, claiming the win in 24:13.
