The streets of Bermuda played host to a masterclass in distance running as the Swan's Running Club Legend Series reached a pivotal milestone with the "Sir" Stanley Burgess 5K.
Designed to celebrate the pioneers of the island’s running history, the series has become the ultimate test of consistency and speed, with Kallan Richardson and Estienne Coetzee emerging as the dominant forces to beat.
In the Men’s Field, Richardson produced a display of clinical front-running to secure a comprehensive victory. Richardson stopped the clock at a blistering 16 minutes and 15 seconds, leaving the rest of the field in his wake. Sanchez Smith showed great resilience to claim the second spot on the podium with a time of 17 minutes and 25 seconds, narrowly holding off a surging Shannon Lawrence who followed just thirteen seconds later to round out the top three.
The Women’s race was equally compelling, featuring a high-quality field that saw Maddie Durkin take the tape. Durkin finished sixth overall in the combined standings, crossing the line in 18 minutes and 15 seconds. She was followed by the remarkably consistent Coetzee, who secured eleventh overall in 19 minutes and 10 seconds, while Stepanka Sprincova completed the podium places in 19 minutes and 35 seconds.
