David Selley and Steven Bridges have surged to the top of the IHRA Offshore Championship standings, with Team Bermuda (S-25) emerging as the early pace-setters in the competitive Super Stock Class.
Following the conclusion of the second annual New Orleans Powerboat Grand Prix in Metairie, Louisiana, the Bermudian duo hold a commanding lead after two rounds of high-octane racing. The pair, who claimed a historic victory at the season opener in St. Petersburg, followed up that performance with a gritty second-place finish on the challenging waters of Lake Pontchartrain.
Selley and Bridges collected a maximum 115 points in Florida and added a further 104 in New Orleans, bringing their championship tally to an impressive 219 points. Their consistency has provided a perfect start to the seven-round national schedule, placing them firmly in the driver's seat as the series moves toward Florida's Space Coast next month.
It was also a productive weekend for fellow Bermudian Luis Martins. Alongside throttleman Nick Imprescia in the 32-foot catamaran S-12 Nuff Said, Martins secured a hard-fought fifth-place finish in Louisiana.
The result marks an upward trajectory for the team, who improved on their sixth-place showing at the St. Pete Grand Prix. After collecting 77 points in the opener and 83 in New Orleans, the Nuff Said crew currently occupy sixth place in the overall standings with 160 points. The performance reinforces Bermuda’s growing influence in the professional offshore circuit, with two boats now featuring prominently in the championship’s top tier.
