Boulevard Blazers 1 Devonshire Cougars 7
Devonshire Cougars returned to winning ways in spectacular fashion, compounding Boulevard Blazers' Premier Division woes with a ruthless 7-1 demolition at the Devonshire Recreation Club.
The victory brings a definitive end to a five-match winless streak for Mark Mills’s side, while for the Blazers, the result leaves them anchored to the bottom of the table with their survival hopes hanging by a thread. The Cougars’ attacking intent was evident from the opening whistle, and it took just 16 minutes for the deadlock to be broken when Charmari Burns’ deflected effort found the back of the net.
The home crowd’s celebrations were briefly silenced just a minute later as Boulevard struck back immediately. Doreiko Walker raced onto a through ball and showed great composure to round the goalkeeper for the equalizer, momentarily offering the visitors a glimmer of hope.
However, the Cougars quickly reasserted their authority. Burns turned provider in the 32nd minute, crossing for Kydan Browne to restore the lead. The pressure continued to mount before the interval, as Jayori Fox added a third in the 43rd minute, followed by a Chae Brangman penalty in stoppage time after Jahzi Wilson-Butterfield was impeded in the area.
Leading 4-1 at the break, the Cougars refused to take their foot off the gas in the second half. The scoreline remained steady until the final twenty minutes when the floodgates opened once more. Burns claimed his second of the night in the 73rd minute to make it five, before a quick-fire double in the 80th minute from Justin Bell and Zion Simmons completed the rout.
The defeat is the tenth of a difficult campaign for the Blazers, who remain stuck on six points with time running out to bridge the gap to safety. For the Cougars, the clinical performance provides a much-needed boost as they look to climb back toward the top four in the closing stages of the season.
