The local road running season reached another high point as a competitive field gathered for the Fidelity 5K Run and Walk. In a morning defined by tactical racing along the scenic Crow Lane and Harbour Road circuit, Philip Woollins and Colette Durkin emerged as the standout performers to claim the overall male and female titles.
Woollins, who has been in fine form throughout the winter months, delivered a clinical performance to distance himself from the chasing pack. He crossed the finish line in 17 minutes and 51 seconds, showcasing the same speed that saw him clinch the Butterfield & Vallis 5K title just last month. He was closely pursued by Corey Brunton, who pushed the pace in the final mile to secure second place in 17:59, while Mike Neill rounded out the men’s podium with a strong finish of 18:11.
The women's race saw Durkin exert her authority early on. Durkin, placing an impressive fifth overall in the combined field, stopped the clock at 18:42 to secure a comfortable victory. Her performance marks a significant step up from her recent second-place finish in January and cements her status as one of the island's premier female distance runners.
Stepanka Sprincova continued her consistent run of podium finishes, taking the second female spot and seventh overall with a time of 19:00. The final spot on the women's podium went to Teresa Ruiz, who broke the 20-minute barrier with a time of 20:00 flat to finish 14th in the overall standings.
The event, which serves as a memorial to David Saul and supports Dementia Bermuda, once again drew a significant turnout of both competitive runners and charity walkers, reinforcing the community spirit that defines the Bermuda road running calendar.
