The race for the Bermuda Premier Division title took another dramatic turn at the Devonshire Recreation Club as both North Village Rams and Dandy Town Hornets secured vital victories in a high-stakes Friday night double-header.
Boulevard Blazers 1 North Village Rams 5
The North Village Rams ensured they remained firmly in the championship hunt, drawing level on 25 points with Devonshire Colts and the Hornets following a dominant 5–1 win over the Boulevard Blazers. The Rams asserted their authority early, taking the lead with a close-range tap-in before doubling their advantage just minutes later with a nearly identical strike.
The pressure continued to mount as a well-timed through ball allowed the Rams to make it 3–0, beating the advancing goalkeeper with ease. Despite the deficit, the Blazers fought back dramatically before the interval, as their striker beat his marker and unleashed a thunderous right-footed shot that left the Village keeper rooted to the spot.
The second half saw the Rams pull away again, extending their lead to 4–1 with a volley that navigated through a crowded penalty area following a corner. Pierre Smith added the final gloss to the scoreline, slamming home a shot from the edge of the box after excellent build-up play down the right wing to seal a comprehensive 5–1 win.
Devonshire Cougars 1 Dandy Town Hornets 3
In the night’s late fixture, the Dandy Town Hornets claimed the top spot in the standings with 28 points after a clinical 3–1 triumph over the Devonshire Cougars. Town wasted no time, taking the lead in just the second minute when a long ball was deftly redirected into the path of Temiko Goater, who finished coolly to give his side a 1–0 lead at the break.
The match remained tense until the 81st minute, when David Jones pounced on a defensive error to double the lead in a one-on-one situation. Jones was at it again just moments later, latching onto another through ball to extend the lead to 3–0. While Jayori Fox managed to pull a goal back for the Cougars from the edge of the six-yard box in the 85th minute, it proved to be a mere consolation.
The Hornets will now await the results of the remaining weekend fixtures to see if they can maintain their narrow advantage at the top of the table.
