Bermudian distance star Jake Brislane proved his cross-country credentials on both sides of the Atlantic, delivering a gritty top-ten performance in the United Kingdom before returning home to claim championship honors in Bermuda.
Representing the University of Warwick, Brislane took to the start line at the historic Newbold Comyn for the Birmingham & District Invitation Cross Country League. Competing in a high-caliber Division 1 race hosted by the Birmingham Cross Country League, the Bermudian athlete navigated the testing terrain to secure a superb 7th place finish. Clocking a time of 32:25, Brislane’s performance was a testament to his tactical maturity against a dense field of elite collegiate and club runners.
The result served as the perfect springboard for Brislane’s festive homecoming. Just weeks after his battle in the English mud, he returned to the island to headline the Bermuda Red Cross Jingle Bell 5K Run.
In a commanding display of front-running, Brislane broke the tape in 15:54 to be crowned the male champion, finishing more than 30 seconds clear of his nearest rival, Sanchez Smith. For Brislane, the back-to-back successes highlight a golden period of form that bridges his development in the UK with his status as one of Bermuda’s premier road and trail athletes.
