Tonight is a momentous occasion for Bermudian football as the national team legend Reggie Lambe will play his final home international match when Bermuda faces Curacao in a crucial World Cup 26 Qualifying fixture at the National Sports Centre at 8:00 pm.
Lambe, who recently announced his decision to retire from international duty at the close of this qualifying campaign, is Bermuda’s most capped player with an unprecedented 64 appearances and 14 goals for the Gombey Warriors.
The veteran midfielder's journey has spanned nearly two decades since his debut in 2007. His career highlights include scoring the dramatic late winner against Cuba that sealed Bermuda’s progress to this final qualifying round.
Bermuda Football Association (BFA) President Mark Wade urged fans to come out: "We encourage all fans to come out and give Reggie the farewell that he deserves during our team's last home match versus Curacao on Thursday, November 13th, at the National Sports Centre”.
Though Bermuda is out of contention for World Cup qualification, Coach Michael Findlay’s side is determined to earn their first points in the group and spoil Curacao’s chances.
Curacao is battling for the top spot in Group B and is widely considered the favourite. The teams last met in September, where Curacao edged a thrilling 3-2 victory. Bermuda showed resilience in that match, rallying from a 2-0 deficit to level the score by half-time.
Tonight offers Lambe one final opportunity to lead the Gombey Warriors to a famous home result before his final international appearance away to Trinidad & Tobago.
