Bermuda Day Half Marathon Champion Sean Trott has thrown down a unique gauntlet for competitors in the upcoming Word of Life Bermuda 5k Fun Run & Walk, challenging the entire field to outrun him after he gives them a substantial head start.
The event, titled "The Chase," will take place on Saturday, October 11th, at Astwood Park. All proceeds from the race will go directly to Word of Life Bermuda, an incorporated Christian mission organization dedicated to mentoring and supporting the island's youth through summer camps and local church and school clubs that teach life principles based on the Bible.
The day's events will kick off with a children’s one-mile race starting at 8:00 AM, followed by the 5k walk at 8:15 AM.
The main event, the 5k road race, begins at 8:30 AM. However, the mass of runners will be given a five-minute head start over Sean Trott. The challenge is simple: once Trott starts "The Chase," he will attempt to pass as many of the competitors as possible before the finish line.
Trott, a perennial contender in local long-distance running who recently claimed his maiden Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby title, is known for his speed and endurance. With his 5k personal best time having clocked in under 16 minutes, the five-minute buffer will provide a fascinating test of pace and pacing for every participant.
The event promises to be a fun and engaging way to support Word of Life Bermuda's commitment to the island's youth.
