Bermuda's Darina Betschart has been crowned the Girls 11-13 champion at the 37th Annual Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships, as the island's four junior golfers concluded their competitive campaign.
Betschart's victory was the highlight of the week for the Bermudian contingent, who all gained valuable experience at the prestigious regional tournament.
Betschart, who had led from the outset, continued her exceptional form into the final round, carding an impressive one-over par 73. Her stellar performance cemented a commanding victory, as she finished the tournament at four-under par, a remarkable 21 shots ahead of her nearest competitor. Her final round was a picture of consistency, featuring two birdies, 13 pars, and just three bogeys, a fitting end to a dominant display of junior golf.
Meanwhile, in the highly competitive Boy's 18 & Under Division, both Arman Newton and Johnny Bart proudly represented the island. Newton concluded the tournament in a respectable 9th position after a final-round score of four-over par 76. His round was highlighted by one birdie and 12 pars, showcasing his steady play on the course. Bart finished in 13th place, having posted a six-over par 78, a round which included three birdies.
In the Boys 11 to 13 Division, Lewis MacFarlane concluded his tournament in 13th place. MacFarlane posted a final round of 12-over par 84, bringing his total for the championship to 41-over par. He showed moments of promise in his final round, including one birdie and six pars, as he navigated his way through the demanding course.
The performances of all four Bermudian golfers, particularly Betschart's championship-winning run, demonstrate the island's promising future in the sport. The experience of competing on this stage against the Caribbean's best junior talent will prove invaluable for their continued development.
