The Ministry of Tourism & Transport, Culture & Sport, is pleased to announce ‘Game Changers’, a dynamic new event series hosted by The Department of Sport and Recreation. This marks the relaunch of the National Sports Conference & Expo, taking place from September 5–7, 2025.
“Minister of Tourism & Transport, Culture & Sport, the Hon. Owen Darrell, JP, MP, stated, “Game Changers is more than just an event, it is a movement toward transforming the culture of sport in Bermuda. By creating opportunities for learning, connection, and innovation, we are laying the foundation for a healthier, more unified, and high-performing sporting community.”
This event directly supports Goal 1: “Increase Participation” of the National Sports Policy, specifically Objective 1.3: “Hold a Sports Expo to Increase Sports Awareness”, by bringing together athletes, coaches, administrators, parents, and community members for three days of workshops, panels, keynote speakers, and hands-on learning, all aimed at strengthening Bermuda’s sporting ecosystem.
“This Conference represents the latest offering from the Department of Sport and Recreation to ensure that Bermuda’s athletes are supported in the best way possible, both on and off the field,” said Jekon Edness, Senior Sports Development Officer at the Department.
“We are committed to developing a thriving, inclusive, and sustainable sports landscape, and Game Changers is an important step in that journey.”
The Game Changers Conference will feature a wide-ranging programme designed to engage, educate, and empower participants across all levels of the sporting community. Highlights include:
1. Opening Keynote: Beyond the Game – Preparing Bermuda’s student-athletes for life
2. Panel Discussion: From School Sport to Scholarships – Academic pathways, athletic development, nutrition, and digital readiness
3. Evening Forum: Breaking Barriers – A conversation with Clyde ‘Bunny’ Best and other trailblazers on equity in sport
4. Saturday Workshops for:
1. Athletes & Parents: Injury prevention, nutrition, mental performance, building your brand
2. Coaches & Admins: Resilience, inclusion, coaching science, bio-banding, and female athlete development
3. NSGB & Sports Club Symposium – Governance, LTAD implementation, funding models, and volunteer strategies
5. Sunday Expo: A community showcase with live demos, ‘try-it’ stations, interactive booths, giveaways, and a kids’ zone
The Game Changers Conference forms part of the Government’s broader commitment to advancing Bermuda’s Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) framework and ensuring sustainable success across all levels of sport.
