Meireles & Daniel Survive Dramatic Flip in Championships

IslandStats.com
The Bermuda Power Boat Association hosted its third National Championship Race, with thrilling action taking place off Cross Island in Dockyard. Just one week after the second race in Hamilton Harbour, the West End waters provided a dramatic backdrop, highlighted by a startling incident involving one of the B-Class competitors.

Fans witnessed a heart-stopping moment when the boat carrying Steven Meireles and Aaron Daniel (B96) flipped over while attempting to round a marker. Both crew members were confirmed to be unhurt, a relief to all on shore and among the race officials, who immediately flagged the race to a halt for safety.

Despite the disruption, the day saw intense competition across the divisions:

A - Class

Shane Madeiros & Joshua Holder

Chris Marshall & Jacari Marshall

B – Class

Ryan Resendes & Anthony Bailey

Brandon DeSilva & Blake Burgess
David Willoughby & Kelsey Durham
Jacai Morris & Jeneko Place
Andre Bailey & Philip Raposo
Steven Meireles & Aaron Daniel (DNF)

D – Class

Andrew Cottingham & Henry Talbot

Howard Ascento & Sadune Raynor
Shaki Easton & Jauza James
Matthew Smith & Brandon Renault

The incident involving Meireles and Daniel served as a stark reminder of the inherent risks in powerboat racing, but also of the rapid response of safety crews and the resilience of the competitors. The series now moves forward, with these results further shaping the championship standings as teams battle for supremacy in the remaining races.
