Bermudian sprint talent Miles Outerbridge concluded his highly successful campaign at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor 2025 Championships, competing in the fiercely contested Championship Boys 200m Final.
Representing Montverde Academy, Outerbridge took to the track at Franklin Field, University of Pennsylvania, among the nation's elite high school sprinters. In the final race, he crossed the finish line in 8th place, clocking a time of 21.23 seconds.
This performance in the 200m final, following his earlier strong showing in the 100m, caps a truly remarkable season for the young Bermudian. Outerbridge has consistently demonstrated his speed and competitive spirit throughout the year, earning accolades like the MileSplit Florida All-City Track & Field Team honours for his dominant performances. Reaching the finals in both premier sprint events at a national championship of this calibre solidifies his status as a promising talent to watch in the world of athletics.
Meanwhile, Discus thrower Tiara DeRosa delivered a sensational performance at the Bermuda National Athletics Association Track & Field Championships, not only breaking her own national record but also achieving the qualifying standard for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Competing at the Flora Duffy South Field Stadium at the National Sports Center, DeRosa unleashed a colossal throw of 50.07 meters. This outstanding effort surpasses her previous national record of 48.91 meters, which she set back on April 26, 2018, in Philadelphia.
The jubilant throw also confirmed DeRosa's place among the elite, as it met the stringent qualifying standard for the 2026 Commonwealth Games. With the qualification window having recently opened on May 1st, DeRosa has become the first Bermudian athlete to officially book her spot in Glasgow. Her determination and consistent training have clearly paid dividends, marking a significant milestone in her career and for Bermudian athletics.
