Bermuda's Senior Men's Cricket team departed the island today, setting off for Canada where the battle for a coveted ICC T20 World Cup spot is set to intensify.
Bermuda will lock horns with the Cayman Islands, the Bahamas, and host nation Canada in the ICC T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier Finals. This crucial tournament represents a significant step on the road to the next T20 World Cup.
Bermuda Coach Cal Waldron discussed the team's preparations ahead of the challenge. "So the preparation has been straight from Cayman Islands to the on-island camp and then to the Smash," Waldron stated. "In Canada, we will continue looking at analysis, data of the team along with the usual preparation of training sessions, and the opportunity to play some quality matches against some good opposition."
Waldron acknowledged the challenges of getting the full squad together in the lead-up to the tournament. "I would have liked to have the players together, but we will have to use the time between now and the tournament to do some team building," he explained.
Despite this, the coach remains optimistic about his squad's mindset. Waldron added, "We do have some warm-up matches before we clash with Canada in the tournament opener. The mindset of the players is positive at this time, and I am hoping they all understand the challenge ahead."
The Bermudian squad will be eager to hit the ground running in Canada, with their sights firmly set on securing a spot in the next stage of the T20 World Cup qualification process. Their opening clash against the hosts will be a key indicator of their readiness for the competition.
