Bermuda's Paralympic star Jessica Lewis has concluded her impressive showing at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Switzerland, adding another Bronze Medal to her collection on Day Three of the competition. This time, Lewis secured third place in the T53 Women’s 400 meters.
Lewis clocked a time of 58.58 seconds, finishing in a dead heat with Angela Ballard from Australia for the Bronze Medal. The Gold Medal was won convincingly by Switzerland's Catherine Debrunner in 49.53 seconds, with Hamide Dogangun from Turkey taking Silver in 57.52 seconds.
Speaking to islandstats.com after the race, Lewis expressed her satisfaction with her performance. "I’m happy with the race, not far off my Personal Best which is great to open the season with. I executed the race perfectly to how coach Geoff Harris and I planned it."
Lewis detailed her race strategy, explaining, "The plan was to get out quickly, hold 26 km along the back stretch with slower hand speed, then pick up hand speed with 150m to go and just punch as best I could to the finish." She also noted a slight adjustment in pace during the race but was pleased with her ability to finish strongly: "I dropped to 25 km for 50m through the second bend but brought it back up to 26.5km in the final 100m so I was happy to have been able to kick it back in.”
Adding a 400m Bronze to her earlier Gold in the 200m demonstrates Jessica Lewis's consistent high level of performance across different sprint distances at the Grand Prix in Switzerland. This successful outing will provide a significant boost as she continues her preparations for future major para-athletics events.
