Bermuda's Paralympic star Jessica Lewis has continued her impressive form at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Switzerland, adding a bronze medal in the T53 Women’s 100 meters on Day Two of the competition. This follows her gold medal-winning performance in the 200 meters on the opening day.
Lewis clocked a time of 16.36 seconds in the 100m final, securing a place on the podium. The victory went to Switzerland's Catherine Debrunner, who recorded a winning time of 15.20 seconds. Hamide Dogangun from Turkey finished narrowly ahead of Lewis in second place, clocking 16.29 seconds.
Lewis's time of 16.36 was close to her Americas record of 16.12 seconds, set last year, highlighting her consistent high level of performance.
Speaking to www.islandstats.com after the race, Lewis reflected on a close battle for the silver medal. "I had a good fight with Hamide at the start," Lewis said. She also identified an area for improvement, noting, "all should have transitioned to power strokes a bit sooner." However, she was pleased with her finish, adding, "I kept hand speed up high at the end which is where I usually slow down. I was gaining on her in the last few meters so I will take what I’ve learned into the next race."
Adding a 100m Bronze to her 200m Gold demonstrates Jessica Lewis's continued excellence and competitiveness on the World Para Athletics Grand Prix circuit. Her ability to secure medals across different sprint distances is a testament to her versatility and dedication as she continues her preparations for future major championships.
