Warwick Academy and Sandys Secondary Middle School emerged as champions in the Middle School Super 8’s Cricket tournament, held at the White Hill Field. The event, sponsored by RenaissanceRe and Skyport, saw Warwick lift the Middle School Boys title while Sandys secured gold in the Girls Division.
Warwick Academy Clinch Boys Title
Warwick Academy were crowned Middle School Boys Champions after a convincing 29-run victory over Sandys Secondary Middle School in the final. Warwick, batting first, posted a formidable 75 runs in their allotted six overs. Henrik McIntosh led the charge with a powerful 18 runs, including two sixes and one four. Thomas McBain also contributed significantly with 16 runs for the champions.
In reply, Sandys Secondary Middle School could only muster 46 runs. Shannon Smith was the top scorer for the west-enders with 14 runs. Warwick had earlier displayed their dominance in the semi-finals, overwhelming Saltus Grammar School after posting a daunting 96 runs in their six overs. McBain led all scorers in that match with 24 runs, including two sixes and two fours, while McIntosh added 22. Saltus could only manage 39 runs in response.
Sandys Secondary Middle School reached the final after a 21-run victory over the Whitney Institute in their semi-final clash. Sandys posted 76 runs in their innings, led by Riley Martin's impressive 30 runs, which included three sixes and three fours before he had to retire. Smith added 23 runs. Whitney scored 54 runs in their overs, led by Meaiz Trott on 19 and Davonte Binns Leverock on 13 runs.
Sandys Exact Revenge to Win Girls Title
Sandys Secondary Middle School exacted revenge on Warwick Academy in the Girls Division final, securing the title with a composed performance. Sandys batted first and scored 54 runs, led by Yahri Smith's unbeaten and boundary-filled 18 runs. Warwick Academy struggled in their reply, hampered by four run-outs as they could only manage 30 runs.
Sandys reached the final after overcoming the Whitney Institute by 24 runs in their semi-final. Rhe’O Simons was the leading scorer with 10 runs as Sandys posted 65 runs. Warwick Academy progressed to the final after a close 4-wicket victory over Saltus Grammar School. Saltus were restricted to 46 runs in their six overs of batting, with Sophia Lewter and McKenna Kyme each scoring 10 runs. Warwick reached their target of 47 runs with just two balls to spare, with Mirabella Lohan hitting four boundaries on her way to 19 runs, while Evie Brogden added 10 runs for the eventual runners-up.
The Middle School Super 8s tournament showcased the exciting young talent in Bermuda cricket, with Warwick Academy and Sandys Secondary Middle School claiming the coveted titles in the boys' and girls' divisions respectively.
