Bermuda Boats Face Drama at Thunder On Cocoa Beach

IslandStats.com
Two boats proudly representing Bermuda took to the Atlantic Ocean off Cocoa Beach to compete in the thrilling Thunder On Cocoa Beach Powerboat Race. The Super Stock Class saw a fierce contest with a total of 12 teams battling it out on the water.

Flying the flag for Bermuda were S-25 GL Construction / S-25 Team Bermuda, with the experienced duo of David Selley and Steven Bridges at the helm. The second Bermuda entry was S-12 NUFF SAID / Team Bermuda, crewed by Luis Martins and Andy Stoneham.

The Super Stock Class race lived up to its billing, with intense battles unfolding across the course as the powerful boats jostled for position. However, the race took a dramatic turn for one of the Bermuda teams.

Unfortunately for Luis Martins and Andy Stoneham in S-12 NUFF SAID / Team Bermuda, their race ended prematurely. With the event more than three-quarters completed, their boat overturned, bringing a halt to their participation. Thankfully, safety crews were quickly on the scene.

Following the incident, the race was concluded, and the final standings were determined based on the positions at the time of the stoppage. David Selley and Steven Bridges in S-25 GL Construction / S-25 Team Bermuda had navigated the challenging conditions effectively and were placed in a commendable 6th position at the race's conclusion.

While the early end to the race for Martins and Stoneham was disappointing, the participation of two Bermuda boats in such a high-profile powerboat event demonstrates the island's passion for offshore racing. The 6th place finish for Selley and Bridges represents a solid achievement in a highly competitive Super Stock Class.
