Sprinter and jumper Za'Kayza Parsons played a key role as her University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Women's Outdoor Track & Field team secured a solid fifth-place finish at the 2025 America East Championships, hosted by the University of New Hampshire. The Retrievers amassed a total of 105 points across the various disciplines.
A standout performance for UMBC came in the Women's 4 x 100m Relay. The quartet, of sophomore Charliana Dacosta, Leanne McDonald, senior Za'Kayza Parsons, and freshman Anna Creel, showcased impressive teamwork and speed to clinch second place in a time of 46.30 seconds. Parsons' experience proved vital in guiding the team to a strong podium finish in this highly competitive event.
Individually, Parsons also demonstrated her versatility across different track and field events. In the Women's 100m Dash, she clocked a respectable time of 12.16 seconds to finish in sixth place. Later in the championships, Parsons turned her attention to the Women's Long Jump, where her best leap of 5.51 metres (or 18 feet 1 inch) saw her finish in seventh position.
While the team title eluded UMBC on this occasion, their fifth-place finish and the strong performances, particularly in the relay and from individuals like Parsons, highlight the talent and dedication within the squad.
