Wimborne’s first pre-season game has an international interest as they host a team on their way to next week’s Island Games in Guernsey. In the 16-team men’s football competition, Bermuda has been drawn in a group with Froya (Norway), Orkney, and Greenland. Their group games are played in rapid succession – this coming Sunday, Monday & Tuesday.
Although Bermuda is the only under-23 squad in the tournament, there is optimism that they can go all the way. Their players include forward Tokia Russell, signed by AFC Totton, who played on loan for Brockenhurst last season, and defender Reece Jones, on the books of Hartley Wintney.
For the host supporters, this will be the first opportunity to see new signings ‘keeper Ross Flitney, defenders Sam Jackson and Billy Walker, and returning forwards Jack Lovell and Matt Neale in action. In addition, there’s likely to be a triallist or three, and Academy graduates out to impress Manager Tim Sills. At the other end of the age span, Skipper Scott Arnold is back for his twenty-third pre-season.
With both managers wanting to give as many players as possible some game-time, let’s hope the kit men have enough shirts to go around.
