Standout Adam Hall and his Winnipeg Goldeyes teammates have secured their place in the postseason following a clinical 6-2 victory over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at Newman Outdoor Field.
Left-hander Kevin Vaupel set the foundation on the mound with five solid innings, while Hall delivered in the clutch late on, going 1-for-4 at the plate with a crucial ninth-inning triple and a run scored.
Winnipeg opened the scoring in the top of the third inning when designated hitter Jiandido Tromp walked, first baseman Roby Enríquez singled, and third baseman Ramón Bramasco beat out an infield single to bring Tromp home.
Shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder extended the lead in the fourth, tripling to centre field before scoring on Noah Marcelo's base hit. An inning later, Tromp took advantage of consecutive errors by RedHawks shortstop Aidan Byrne to cross home plate and stretch the advantage to 3-0.
Fargo-Moorhead staged a response in the bottom of the fifth. Jesús Lujano singled and Juan Fernández doubled to set the table for first baseman José Sermo, who drove in both runners with a sharp two-out single to left field to cut the deficit to 3-2.
However, the Goldeyes reasserted control in the eighth:
Two-Run Cushion: Max Murphy and Keshawn Lynch singled before Tromp cleared the bases with a two-run double to right field, restoring a 5-2 lead.
Hall's Late Spark: In the top of the ninth, Hall launched a leadoff triple to deep right-centre field, giving Winnipeg immediate scoring position.
Sealing the Deal: Marcelo followed with a sacrifice fly to centre, bringing Hall home to round off an emphatic 6-2 triumph and confirm Winnipeg's ticket to October baseball.
