Utility man Adam Hall delivered a clutch game-tying triple in the ninth inning before Keshawn Lynch singled home the winning run in the tenth, lifting the Winnipeg Goldeyes to a dramatic 6-5 walk-off victory over the Kansas City Monarchs at Blue Cross Park.
The contest, which initially got underway on Monday, August 24, was suspended due to severe weather after eight innings with the scores locked at 4-4. Resuming ahead of Wednesday’s regularly scheduled fixture, the Goldeyes held their nerve in extra innings to seal a hard-fought triumph.
Winnipeg built an early 3-0 cushion during Monday’s opening exchanges through a sacrifice fly from Noah Marcelo in the first inning, followed by sacrifice flies from Peyton Holt and Roby Enríquez in the second.
James Colyer led the initial defensive effort on the mound, striking out six across three scoreless frames, while Mitchell Lambson and Arij Fransen combined to keep Kansas City at bay through the middle innings.
However, the Monarchs launched a fierce four-run rally in the seventh, capitalising on fielding miscues and a two-run single from Grant Richardson to take a 4-3 lead. Holt responded immediately in the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run to left field, tying the contest at 4-4 before thunderstorms forced play to be halted.
When action restarted on Wednesday, Richardson looked to have delivered the decisive blow for the Monarchs, launching a solo homer to right in the top of the ninth to put Kansas City ahead 5-4.
Winnipeg refused to yield. Holt led off the bottom of the frame with a sharp single before Hall stepped up to drill an RBI triple to deep centre field—his team-leading seventh triple of the season—bringing Holt home to knot the game at 5-5 and force extra innings.
Hall finished the contest 2-for-5 with one RBI, maintaining his red-hot form at the plate.
After Derrick Cherry worked a scoreless top of the tenth for Winnipeg, the Goldeyes executed with the automatic runner on base in the bottom half.
Ramón Bramasco advanced to third on a wild pitch following an intentional walk to Marcelo that loaded the bases. Lynch then lined a clean single into left field, driving Bramasco home to spark wild celebrations in the dugout.
