Second baseman Adam Hall produced a standout three-hit performance as the Winnipeg Goldeyes exploded for a decisive seven-run fifth inning to defeat the Sioux City Explorers 12-7 at Lewis & Clark Park.
Hall finished 3-for-5 from the plate and crossed home plate once during an offensive slugfest that saw the Goldeyes rack up 12 runs and weather a mid-game fightback from the hosts.
Winnipeg drew first blood in the top of the third inning. Following a double from Max Murphy and a single from Kevin García, designated hitter Ray-Patrick Didder launched a three-run blast to left field—his team-leading 19th home run of the season—to make it 3-0.
Sioux City answered immediately in the bottom of the fourth, staging a four-run rally. RBI hits from Braulio Vásquez, Alberto Osuna, and Jackson Van De Brake overturned the deficit and briefly handed the Explorers a 4-3 advantage.
The Goldeyes struck back emphatically in the fifth. After Ramón Bramasco drew a walk and Hall singled to set the table, centre fielder Noah Marcelo smashed a three-run home run to left to restore Winnipeg's lead at 6-4.
The visitors kept the pressure on. Keshawn Lynch and Raphaël Pelletier reached base before Jiandido Tromp, Didder, and Bramasco all delivered run-scoring singles to cap a seven-run frame and push the score out to 10-4.
Sioux City threatened again in the sixth when Van De Brake connected for a three-run shot to reduce the gap to 10-7. However, Bramasco drove in Didder in the seventh, and Murphy belted a solo home run to centre in the eighth to firmly shut the door.
Starting left-hander Kevin Vaupel earned the win despite conceding six earned runs over five frames, before the Goldeyes' relief corps locked down the final four innings. Aidan Newton provided 1 2/3 scoreless innings, and Sage Ferguson struck out three across two shutout frames to wrap up a dominant team victory.
