A three-homer barrage inside the first four innings propelled the Sioux Falls Canaries to an 8-4 victory over Adam Hall and the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Sioux Falls Stadium.
Bermuda infielder Hall went 1-for-5 with an RBI, but the Goldeyes were unable to contain an aggressive Canaries offence from the outset.
Sioux Falls opened a 2-0 advantage against Winnipeg starter James Colyer in the first frame courtesy of an RBI double from Mike Hart and a run-scoring groundout by Michael Curialle. Trevor Achenbach stretched the cushion to 3-0 in the second with a solo blast to right field.
Winnipeg cut into the deficit in the top of the third when Peyton Holt singled, Ramón Bramasco doubled, and Hall drove in Holt with a groundout. The respite proved brief, however, as Hart answered with a solo shot in the bottom half to make it 4-1.
The Goldeyes staged a fightback in the fourth, scoring twice through a Max Murphy RBI single and a Canaries throwing error on Holt's ball in play to narrow the margin to 4-3.
Sioux Falls shut the door on the rally in the bottom of the inning when Scott Combs launched a two-run homer to left, pushing the lead to 6-3.
Jabari Henry drove in Combs in the sixth and the hosts added another in the seventh to pull clear at 8-3. Kevin García plated Keshawn Lynch with an eighth-inning groundout for Winnipeg, before Hart wrapped up the scoring in the bottom half with an RBI double.
