Adam Hall and the Winnipeg Goldeyes extended their blistering form to 13 consecutive victories, executing a dramatic middle-innings fightback to secure a 6-4 win over the Lincoln Saltdogs at Haymarket Park.
The victory, coupled with the Kansas City Monarchs' defeat to Fargo-Moorhead, sees the Goldeyes close to within just half a game of top spot in the American Association West Division.
Right fielder Hall played a key role in the decisive sixth-inning rally, finishing the night 1-for-3 with a hit, a walk, and a crucial run scored.
It was Lincoln who made the early running, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Jairo Pomares singled to center field to bring home Nick Shumpert.
The hosts capitalized on defensively shaky moments from Winnipeg in the third, extending their advantage to 3-0 after Jacob Morrow reached on a throwing error before scoring on a second defensive miscue, followed by a Pomares sacrifice fly.
When Tanner O’Tremba crushed a solo home run to right field in the fourth to make it 4-0, Lincoln looked comfortably in control.
However, the Goldeyes produced a devastating response in the top of the sixth, scoring all six of their runs in a single explosive frame.
Roby Enríquez kicked off the rally with an infield single, before Ray-Patrick Didder smashed his team-leading 19th double of the season to put runners on second and third. Ramón Bramasco immediately cut the deficit to 4-1 with an RBI single to center.
Hall then showed great patience to draw a walk and load the bases, setting up Noah Marcelo to clear them with a clutch double down the left-field line, tying the ballgame at 4-4. Marcelo, whose three RBIs brought his season total to 65—third-highest in the league—was then driven home along with Keshawn Lynch courtesy of a two-run single from designated hitter Max Murphy.
Rookie starter Aidan Newton allowed three unearned runs on one hit over three innings before handing over to Winnipeg's bullpen, who held the Saltdogs to just five hits on the night.
James Colyer claimed the win in relief, while Derrick Cherry shut the door in the ninth to record his 15th save of the campaign, moving him into joint-second in the league's save standings. Lincoln starter Cael Chatham took the loss after being tagged for five runs on six hits across five innings.
