Adam Hall and the Winnipeg Goldeyes extended their blistering run of form to seven straight victories, securing a comfortable 9-3 win over the Lincoln Saltdogs at Blue Cross Park.
Hall went 1-for-4 at the plate, contributing to an offensive display that saw the Goldeyes break open a tight contest in the late innings to dispatch their opponents.
Winnipeg opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning under dramatic circumstances. Right fielder Max Murphy was robbed of extra bases by Lincoln centre fielder Cam Phelts, who crashed heavily into the outfield wall after making a fearless leaping catch.
Despite the catch, Murphy was credited with a sacrifice fly, allowing Keshawn Lynch to cross the plate for the opening run.
Lincoln (29-38) answered back in the top of the third when shortstop Nick Shumpert singled to left field to drive in Paul Myro and level the scores at 1-1.
However, the hosts responded immediately in the bottom half. With two outs, centre fielder Noah Marcelo deliberately drew a rundown between first and second base, allowing Roby Enríquez to steal home just before Marcelo was tagged out, restoring Winnipeg's lead at 2-1.
The Goldeyes stretched their advantage in the fourth inning when Jiandido Tromp singled up the middle to bring home Raphaël Pelletier, before Murphy scored on a passed ball to make it 4-1.
Lincoln threatened a comeback in the sixth, narrowing the deficit to a single run. Tanner O’Tremba doubled to right-centre to score Jairo Pomares, before Cam Dayton lined a single to centre field to drive in O’Tremba and pull the Saltdogs back to 4-3.
That was as close as the visitors would get. Winnipeg took control in the seventh as Marcelo drove a single through the left side of the infield to score Ray-Patrick Didder and Enríquez, pushing the lead to 6-3.
The knock-out blow arrived in the bottom of the eighth. Murphy crushed his eighth home run of the season deep to left field, bringing home Ramón Bramasco and Pelletier for a three-run shot that capped an emphatic 9-3 victory.
