Hall Helps Goldeyes Complete Historic Sweep of Monarchs

IslandStats.com
Adam Hall played another important role as the Winnipeg Goldeyes extended their winning streak to five games with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the West Division-leading Kansas City Monarchs at Legends Field.

The infielder finished 1-for-3, scoring the tying run as Winnipeg completed a three-game sweep of Kansas City. It marked the Goldeyes' first series sweep in Kansas City since June 2008, when the two clubs competed in the Northern League.

A tightly contested pitchers' duel saw both starters dominate through the opening four innings before the Monarchs broke the deadlock in the fifth. Sahid Valenzuela scored on Trevor Boone's two-out double to hand the home side a 1-0 advantage.

Winnipeg finally found a breakthrough in the eighth inning. Hall drew a leadoff walk and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt before Noah Marcelo delivered a single to right-centre field to bring the Bermudian home with the tying run.

The Goldeyes completed the comeback moments later when Raphaël Pelletier doubled down the right-field line to score Marcelo and put Winnipeg ahead for the first time.

Relievers Aidan Newton, making his professional debut, Eli Saul and closer Derrick Cherry combined to shut the door, with Cherry collecting his 11th save of the season as Kansas City was held to just three hits.

The victory continued Winnipeg's impressive recent form, with Hall once again making a valuable contribution as the Goldeyes strengthened their momentum heading into the next stage of the season.
