Bermuda’s junior squash players experienced a day of mixed fortunes on the glass courts of the Tortola Sports Club, recovering from an opening-day slump to brush aside hosts British Virgin Islands before being edged out by St Vincent & the Grenadines.
After a tough opening day at the 2026 Junior Caribbean Squash Championships, Bermuda's boys showed impressive resilience in their opening tie of Day 2, before falling to a clinical Vincentian outfit.
Meanwhile, the girls' team saw their main-draw hopes ended as they were relegated to the 7th-9th place playoff bracket.
The morning session belonged to Bermuda as they produced a disciplined display to overcome the local crowd and secure an 8-4 victory over the British Virgin Islands.
Bermuda set the tone in the junior ranks. In the Under-11 division, emerging bronze-medalist Remy Horsefall was in ruthless form, brushing aside Toby Freeman 11-1, 11-2, 11-6.
Newly crowned Caribbean Under-13 champion Mason Smith suffered a setback, falling in straight games to Jakob Noblett. However, his individual final opponent and silver-medalist Benjamin Sherratt picked up the slack, dominating Devon Mellor 11-1, 11-3, 11-5.
Crucial older-age victories sealed the tie. Michael Schrah was virtually flawless in his Under-17 match, yielding just six points in a swift straight-games victory over Iain Cruickshank. William Frith then guaranteed the overall match win, defeating Zevieh Abraham 11-5, 11-4, 11-9 in the second Under-19 slot.
Bermuda's momentum was quickly halted in the afternoon session by a well-drilled team from St Vincent & the Grenadines, who matched them physically to claim an 8-4 win.
Once again, the Under-13 and Under-15 divisions were the bright spots for Bermuda. Under-13 star Sherratt had to dig deep in a tense third-game tiebreak to overcome Savante' Padmore 11-3, 11-6, 12-10. Under-15 prospect Mason Smith followed up with an absolute masterclass, completely dismantling Ethan Webster 11-1, 11-1, 11-2.
However, St Vincent dominated the remaining age groups. Zavin Garrick proved too strong for Horsefall in the Under-11 opener, while Jayden George comfortably defeated Owen Rosorea in the Under-17 match.
The tie was ultimately decided in the senior brackets. William Frith was swept by Aiden DeFreitas, before individual Under-19 silver-medalist Eli Carpol fought bravely in a dramatic, four-game clash against Jaydon Williams, ultimately falling 13-11, 8-11, 12-10, 11-5 to hand St Vincent the overall match points.
