Bermudian harness racing driver Kiwon Waldron secured a pair of solid mid-pack finishes during a demanding multi-class card at Harrah’s Hoosier Park in Indiana.
Competing on the seven-eighths-mile dirt oval, Waldron test his tactical acumen against highly competitive North American fields in both the Pace and Trot disciplines.
His evening began in Race 1, steering Odds On Candy in a hotly contested Pace Class event. Starting smoothly from the gate, Waldron found a pocket along the backstretch and kept his charge well within striking distance of the leaders. As the field turned for home, Waldron urged a late burst from Odds On Candy, crossing the line in fourth place with a respectable time of 1:55.3.
Waldron then quickly swapped sulkies and shifted gears for Race 2, moving into the more technical Trot Class behind Double A Dream.
Facing an aggressive early tempo from the inside horses, Waldron was forced to navigate heavy traffic from a difficult lane position. Despite being unable to find a clean path to mount a late podium charge in the homestretch, he guided the trotter over the wire to secure a sixth-place finish, stopping the clock at a flat 1:58.0.
While the elusive Indiana victories escaped him on this occasion, the consistent drives continue to provide Waldron with valuable mileage on the elite US circuit.
