Milkmen Crush Hall & Goldeyes in Dominant Victory

IslandStats.com
The Milwaukee Milkmen unleashed a devastating offensive onslaught on Tuesday, crushing Adam Hall and his Winnipeg Goldeyes teammates 12-2 in a completely one-sided contest.

From the opening pitch, Winnipeg simply had no answer for Milwaukee’s bats, with first baseman Griffin Doersching putting on a masterclass at the plate to hand the Goldeyes a sobering defeat.

The tone was set in the very first inning. Step forward Griffin Doersching. Stepping up as the third batter of the afternoon, the powerful first baseman crushed a towering two-run home run to left field—his second of the young season—to instantly put Winnipeg on the back foot.

An inning later, Doersching struck again. With two outs and runners in scoring position, he lined a clutch, two-run double to left field, bringing in Andrew Sundean and Michael Hallquist. Just two innings in, and the Goldeyes were already staring up at a 4-0 deficit.

The bleeding didn't stop there. Milkmen left fielder Andy Blake led off the third inning with a solo shot to left, extending the lead to five before Milwaukee completely blew the game open with a five-run eruption in the fourth.

Doersching was inevitably at the heart of it again, notching his fifth and sixth RBIs of the afternoon with a double to right field that plated Delvin Pérez and Hallquist. A costly Winnipeg throwing error allowed Doersching to score himself, before Yordys Valdés singled to right to drive in Justin Janas and Blake. By the end of the fourth frame, the scoreboard read a staggering 10-0.

The Goldeyes finally showed a spark of life in the top of the fifth inning. With two outs, right fielder Roby Enríquez laced a double, followed immediately by a back-to-back RBI double from Hall to break the shutout. Hall put in a battling shift, finishing the game with one hit and an RBI from his three at-bats.

Any hopes of a miraculous Winnipeg comeback were instantly dashed in the bottom half of the inning, however. Justin Janas stroked a two-run single to center field, bringing home Hallquist and the unstoppable Doersching to push the lead to a massive 12-1.

Winnipeg could only manage a minor consolation in the top of the eighth when second baseman Keyshawn Lynch drove in Raphaël Pelletier with a bloop single to right, rounding out the scoring at 12-2.

On the mound, Oakville, Ontario native Christian Young (1-0) was excellent for Milwaukee. Young earned his first win of the season after working five disciplined innings, scattering five hits and allowing just one earned run while striking out five. Relievers Kenny Pierson and Eric Chalus seamlessly closed the door, throwing two innings apiece to stifle any late Winnipeg resistance.

For Winnipeg starter Mitchell Lambson (0-1), it was an afternoon to forget. Lambson was battered for seven earned runs on seven hits in a grueling 3.1 innings, striking out just one, walking one, and hitting two batters in a tough outing.

Arij Fransen, Weston Lombard, James Colyer, and Tasker Strobel all featured out of the bullpen to eat up innings, but the damage had long been done. Winnipeg must now dust themselves down and find a response after being utterly outclassed in Milwaukee.
