Harness driver Kiwon Waldron returned to the competitive circles of Harrah’s Hoosier Park this week, navigating a busy four-race card across both trotting and pacing divisions. Testing his versatility at the renowned Indiana track, Waldron took the lines for four different stables, facing off against a deep field of seasoned American drivers.
The afternoon began in the trotting ranks, where Waldron piloted Gumcorner Flossy in the opening race of the day. Competing in a disciplined trot class, the Bermudian managed to find a steady rhythm along the rail, crossing the finish line in a respectable fourth place with a recorded time of 2:03.4.
Waldron then shifted gears to the pace class for the sixth race, taking the seat behind Firing Onall Fours. In a significantly faster encounter, he maintained a competitive position throughout the mile, once again securing a fourth-place finish by stopping the clock in 1:58.4.
The seventh race proved to be the most challenging outing of the session for the young driver. Handling Sweet Pink in another pacing event, Waldron struggled to find clear air in a crowded field, ultimately finishing ninth as the horse faded in the final stretch to record a time of 2:02.4.
However, the speed of the day was reserved for the ninth race trot class. Reining Surf Scoter, Waldron was involved in a blistering pace from the start. Despite the high-octane nature of the mile, he guided the horse to a sixth-place finish in a sharp 1:57.3, marking his fastest individual performance of the meeting. While a podium finish eluded him on this occasion, the afternoon provided further valuable experience for Waldron as he continues to establish his presence on the international circuit.
