Day five of the Caribbean Area Squash Association’s (CASA) Senior Championships in Guyana saw the focus remain firmly on the team competitions, with both the Bermuda Men's and Women’s teams securing dominant victories over strong regional opponents.
The Bermuda Men's team put in a strong performance to defeat Jamaica 11-6, securing wins in the top three matches to clinch the tie.
Micah Franklin continued his strong tournament form, defeating Jonathan Walker in straight sets (11-5, 13-11, 11-3). Taylor Carrick also secured a decisive straight-sets victory, defeating Ashante Smith 11-9, 11-7, 11-6. Noah Browne completed the dominant streak at the top of the lineup, winning his match against Dane Schwier 11-6, 11-4, 11-5. Despite losses from Anaya Smith (to Adam Ardito) and D'vario Thompson (to Tobias Levy), the early wins were enough to seal the tie for Bermuda.
The Bermuda Women’s team achieved a remarkable result, defeating Trinidad & Tobago 9-2, despite only fielding three players in the competition.
Melina Turk led the way with a straight-sets victory over Marie-Claire Barcant (11-8, 11-7, 11-9). Alex Furtado added a comprehensive straight-sets win against Catherine de Gannes-Martin (11-4, 11-3, 11-2). The most dramatic match saw Abigail Brewer secure the tie with a hard-fought five-set victory over Kimberley Farah (11-4, 11-3, 9-11, 6-11, 11-7), showcasing the team’s immense fighting spirit.
Both victories highlight the resilience and quality of the Bermuda squash contingent on the regional stage.
